Features

Detect Any Window Closure

Detect any closure method, including actions like clicking the red button, using keyboard shortcuts, etc.

Blacklist Specifc Apps

Allow selection of specific apps that should remain open even when all their windows are closed.

Logging

Provide text logs of all window closure and app quit events, indicating whether or not an app was quit by Last Window Quits.

Quit Timer

Set a timer (2 seconds by default) before an app quits, preventing immediate closure after events like a splash window display.

Other Features

Start at login and run in the background.
Option to temporarily disable the app.
Some background apps are never quit (e.g. VPNs).

Why is this app needed?

macOS includes built-in memory management that automatically closes background apps not in use, particularly when memory is low. However, in my experience, there are instances where the system runs out of memory without closing inactive apps, and shows a prompt as shown below. I developed this app to provide an alternative for those who prefer always closing apps to maintain optimal memory usage.

macOS 15 (Sequoia) compatibility issue

macOS 15 (Sequoia) has a bug where the system doesn’t notify apps when windows are closed, making Last Window Quits incompatible with it until Apple fixes the issue. The bug is inconsistent, so the app may sometimes work. Other macOS versions don’t have this bug, so Last Window Quits works there as expected.
